City & Guilds Lion Award 2012

I was delighted, as well as amazed, when I was told earlier in the year that I had been awarded with a prestigious City & Guilds Medal for Excellence for my Level 3 floristry studies.  The award felt like the icing on the cake after spending two years studying floristry full time at Shuttleworth then at Barnsfield colleges and a real encouragement to keep building my new floristry business.

City & Guilds Medal for Excellence presentation

In March I was presented with my award at Barnfield College by a City & Guilds representative – seen here with my fabulous floristry tutor Caroline Bracey.

I was then invited to attend a gala dinner for medal winners held at The Roundhouse, Camden in March – and unbeknown to me there were more surprises in store!  It was a fantastic evening and a real celebration of those who had achieved excellence across the wide range of City & Guilds study areas, and it culminated in the presentation of a number of Lion Awards.....

.....And when my own name was read out by Alex Jones, as winner of the ‘Lion Award for Small Business Learner of the Year’ I was totally shocked!!

My smile says it all!

The career change to floristry has been a dramatic one for me, but I love having the opportunity to indulge my passion for flowers and floristry and working closely with clients is so much more satisfying than my previous role – I’m so pleased I made the change!  I’m hoping news of my award might encourage other people to have a go at something they’ve always wanted to do too.
