Summer Sunflowers...

Natalie and Alex chose an awesome venue in the Rutland countryside for their summer wedding. Their ceremony took place in the private chapel at Exton Park, followed by a marquee reception in the beautiful grounds. The setting was perfect for the natural-looking floral designs I was asked to create, which incorporated plenty of trailing foliage and bright golden sunflowers!

The guests were greeted by fabulous floral displays placed on milk churns to suit the rustic styling. I just loved working with the bright yellows and soft lavender, lilac and ivory flowers that Natalie and Alex chose – such a lovely bright colour scheme for a summer wedding!

Bride and bridesmaids arrive at chapel

Doesn’t Natalie look stunning! I love how well the flower colours work with the bridesmaids’ gorgeous dresses and the colour of the sunflowers really does pop. I always think sunflowers have ‘happy’ faces and in this case they are perfect given the smiles of Natalie and her bridesmaids.

Sunflower bridal bouquet

As well as sunflowers, Natalie’s bouquet included roses, scabious, flowering mint, thistles, veronica, craspedia, sprigs of rosemary as well as plenty of mixed foliage – just right for a natural country-style bouquet.

Decorated hanging planks in marquee

I had so much fun creating the floral designs for this beautiful summer wedding. But by far the greatest challenge was creating these hanging designs to be suspended from the marquee frame and providing a focal point in the large space – a first for me, but not the last time I have done this!

Sunflower design on top table

The design of the top table called for a special treatment too, as Natalie and Alex chose to have a long rectangular dining table placed down the middle of the room with the wedding part sitting at either side. I created a long flower and foliage design filled with sunflowers and other bright flowers to extend along the length of the table, mirroring the shape of the decorated planks hanging overhead. It’s always exciting to be asked to create something a little different!
